Really enjoyed this, an excellent puzzle imo, continuing Everyman’s good run. COD 11a, a fine clue which made me laugh - I love that use of the definition word. LOI 26a which I struggled to parse at first, but I’m happy with it now.

I can’t fathom 8d. I had thought it was a straight anagram, and have ?e?e?r and ?o?n?e? but doesn’t make sense.
Are my across letters wrong?

By the way, I think I had the same problem with 20d - the plural of queens which may not even be a word!

Yeah it's not right that, there is no "chaps", but that wrong answer is listed in the official Scrabble words list as a plural.

I cannot see how the last 5 letter word of 27a corresponds to the 2 penultimate words of the clue.
Or am I completely on the wrong track?
