This thread’s usually up and running by the time I get up, I wonder where the usual suspects have gone?
I thought this was a particularly good Everyman, lots to like, some easier ones as ways in and some trickier parses but nothing overly convoluted and all the usual Everyman features. 5d and 16d were favourites as they took a while to unpack. 11a was LOI as the definition alluded me til the very end.

I thought this was a first-rate Everyman, what I envision an Everyman puzzle "is supposed to be". The perfectionists on 225 will no doubt find faults, but I concur with jono's thanks.
FOI 1a, LOI 22. COD 19, though UK pronunciation required. 20 is COD runner-up, somewhat tricky misdirect IMO.
High quality clues, my COD candidate list numbered 9 and there were fewer clinkers than in yesterday's Prize. Didn't take long to fill the grid, but few excessively easy write-ins.

agree with you both - a fine puzzle, and more head-scratching than usual for a Sunday. LOI was 20 and the one that tickled most was 11. Thanks Everyman

Good day. Enjoyed this one. I like the rhyming pair. Didn't like the primarily (but it did help me get going so perhaps should not complain). Found 4d surprisingly tricky because i prefer mine crunchy rather than chewy. COD 27a.

Having given up on yesterday’s Prize (too hard…) I am finding the Everyman much more fun (and do-able!).

Just a couple to go so seeking hints please for 19a and 27a. For 19a I have the homophone for the Mexican artist and for the end of 27a a word for “runs” seems to fit and is part of a word for some terms for “idiots” but can’t see anything that will fit here.

I agree there is enough difficulty to make this puzzle fun and some humour, which always make it worth the solve

For 19a you need the nickname of a 2nd world war Field Marshal to go with the Mexican artist.

For 27a you need a single letter to start then a 5 letter word for falling short.

I had never heard of the 27a word - one to add to my lexicon. Rather good clue construction.

My knowledge of field marshals is sadly lacking so 19a will remain only partially solved on my grid unless a subconscious flash of inspiration finds a dim memory somewhere…
