Quixote, I think Brendan may have misled you on 12d. The Lady singer is actually Lady followed by a 4-letter word, but the word is a 2-letter syllable repeated.

Sorry, brendan. I interpreted 2,2 as two words. I thought perhaps quixote did also.

Ah, I see what you mean, I was trying to convey that her name is a 2 letter syllable repeated but, of course, if you don't know the answer then that isn't clear.

Quixote, apologies if I sent you down any blind alleys.

Yup - I took it that way - and thought she might be a Chinese opera or pop singer. But now it's absolutely clear. Who could it possibly be?!!

Thanks to all for this éclaircissement.

[Meanwhile the completed piece is already winging its way to St. Alban's.]

i was enjoying this until I ran into impenetrable parsing of five clues. Posts here helped to resolve four of them - many thanks! - but I am stuck on 26a which no-one seems to have mentioned.
I have the grid entry (since it has no unchecked letters), the related synonym and a possible answer before the "unscrupulous 1ac" manipulated it. The wordplay, however, has me flummoxed.
Hints humbly requested.

Jif73, take a usual five-letter Scandinavian and the usual 'concerned with' - 'moving date to the end' will result in a Scottish word for slothful.

Thanks, malone.
I had considered each of those elements at various stages of solving the puzzle - just not at the same time...
So it's a colourful thematic item associated with this clue, right?
