Firstly, perpend is one of the best new words I have come across for ages. Thank you GG.

Secondly, I thought this was very good. I was helped by spotting the theme from the title almost immediately.

Third, I have multiple loose ends. No idea what the answer to 3d or 33d are, but confident my entries are right. And can't see the wordplay for 32a. Any hints welcome.

Thanks

SH, 3 down is a 4-letter commonly eaten flatfish + 3-letter word for skate (fish) minus its last letter. The first three letters are thematic and need to be removed

32 across old form of woe + 4-letter for spoken + i'

33 down Can't remember how this worked, will get back to you

Oh yes, 33 is a 5-letter verb (uncommon) for delay. Wordplay is N + Latin expression for and elsewhere (or and others) all reversed. Letters 2 and 3 of answer are thematically removed

Forgot to say there's an extra word in the definition of 32

Thanks loge, all understood. 2 of those clues a bit sloppy IMHO - not obvious what the 'in' is doing in 33 and no ref to archaic in 32 (although I missed it as had convinced myself spoken meant sounds like).

I seem to have used the same thematic item twice (in 15 and 18) which slightly troubles me, particularly since I cannot marry my entry at 15 to an extra word in 24. What am I missing?

Hi Moffat,

Yes, 15 and 18 share the same item.

15 doesn't have or isn't defined by an extra word.- the extra word in 24 goes with 20d.

My apologies Moffat,

15a is indeed defined by the an extra word from 2d.

..... my attempt at cross-referencing looks utterly chaotic in the cold light of day!
