Excellent puzzle with no ambiguity and some clever clues.

My only problem is that I do not possess the equipment required to follow the instructions precisely, and I certainly don't want to have to go and purchase such items. Can I be colour-blind when I submit - with a note of explanation?

I have one cell left to fill, in 36a, a tip for that would be great.
Lots to do still for endgame, but the parsing (and extra letter) for 12d would also help me a lot.

Thanks tatters. Got both now. Full grid.
My across instruction and down statement are both looking like gobbledygook so I must have a lot of mistakes or there’s something going on.

Ok, I think some of the across message may not be words as such. The first four are consonants that don’t mean anything?
Can I have help parsing 32 and 33. I have both answers.

32: jazz piece + A; misprint in last word
33: (obscure) word for Albanian minus AO; misprint in last word

Yes, the first four (and some of the later) letter sequences don't mean anything in their own right

I mean the first sequence of four letters and a later sequence of letters, but you knew that, didn't you? Just clearing up any possible confusion

Mine was a no doubt common experience: growing certainty about the gridfill, coupled - confusingly - with growing uncertainty about the statement and instructions. And then the sudden éclaircissement and it was Panto season. “Oh no it isn’t!” “Oh yes it is!”
