Interesting philosophical debate ensues.

All done bar a couple of clues that I need to rationalise. Got the 57 cells but not sure about the use of the extra letter from 20A in the endgame - surely it could potentially lead to more than 57? Maybe I've missed something.

Simond9x. Read the instruction carefully. There are only 57.

Had the 57 but misread part of the detail from the correct letters from the Across clues. All good now thanks.

All done and dusted, after getting bogged down parsing the across clues to get the correct letters in the second stage of the cell shading.
A relatively easy workout for me, being very familiar with the theme.

Nearly there. I have 57 cells shaded after finally making sense of the misprints in the across clues - I initially thought that I had made several errors but finally parsing 19a and 21a helped tremendously. I now need to sort out the gobbledegook that I have from the extra letters in the down clues, and I am struggling to see one of those.
