I have now found the requisite number of jumbles, all are contiguous and all jumbles are islands, not touching at sides or corners. My missing name is as I thought but my OCD kicked in to fully satisfy myself. The 39 or 40 reference makes perfect sense to me now as either name can be formed whilst satisfying all of the above.

I have a full grid, but my parsing of 41 across gives me a spare I, whereas I am fairly certain it should be a U. I have the first and third locations and I assume that the third is where one would change. I have no idea what the foreign synonyms from the spare letters should be. Any hints regarding these and 41 across would be appreciated.

Googling the words from the down clues did it for me.

Opt0. You’re on the right track, so to speak. However, you’d change at the first, not the third. Keep looking at the foreign synonyms for the third.

I think that "capital" in 41 is UC (upper case) with the U extra. I'm sure you can work out the rest. from there.

The logo for one of the synonyms (the machine) should help.

As ever I've plodded along on a very damp sandbank, got stuck, and amwondering whether to persevere. To help my decision would someone let me know if there is some sort of processing needed for 8 down and 37 across in accordance with 'jumbled in contiguous cells'? If not I'll assume I've cocked up - like my beloved Cardiff Rugby this afternoon. Plus ca change or deja vu all over again.

Thanks all..
