Make sure you changed the correct letter. We used the wrong one to start with.. incidentally they are adjacent in the alphabet

Superb offering from Kruger to follow on from lionheart the week before. How do they do it? Amazing!

Hello all! Parsing inquiry on “piece removed from silk with special oils “

What nature of “silk” am I dealing with here? Legal, agricultural, or wormy?

Bathmatters, the silk is material, one I'd never heard of. The 'piece', more than one letter, that is removed is fairly common in crosswords.

This is the first time that I can remember (my species does not have the same capacity as elephants) when I have completed without even a glance at this excellent forum. When the next mailboat arrives at the sandbank I will submit.

However I can't quite pick up all the missing letters. Assuming the 19 letter phrase runs 6,2,5,6, I can't see how the two letter word appears and where the penultimate letter of the final word emerges. Is anyone else facing the same problem?

However a lovely puzzle at, for me, about the right level of difficulty, so thank you Kruger.

WS, you should look at the enumeration of the phrase again (last two words). That may be why you're having problems with the missing letters.

Thanks Loge

I'll look again: I often find identifying misprints difficult

I have a filled grid and worked out the end game but I'm unsure about a few parsings:
Picked up table to shift
Admirable corps meeting another
Spades to pack round sulphur mines

Any hints would be much appreciated.

Numbskull,
First is a homophone. The answer ( a verb) sounds like a word for table
Second is two two-letter abbreviations for military units. Slightly unusual definition is first word.
Third has a misprint in the last word. The central four letters are a word meaning 'to pack round', though I think of it as 'to pack down'. Spades and sulphur are the usual abbreviations..

Numbskull,

1. Picked up = sounds like...

2. 2 x Army corps, gives a word meaning admirable, exceptional etc

3 The usual spades and sulphir with a four-letter word for 'to pack', stuff etc, inside.
