Apologies Brendan and Moffat. Age creeping up. You’re right of course, I read it as Moffat wanting to know what letter to remove. Back in the hole

Well, if you are right SimpleSimon I’m in big trouble. I think now that I may have been looking in the wrong section of BRB and that my unchecked letter is a simple one-letter abbreviation. This gives me a word which I assume translates to the relevant title.

Moffat. Yes, a single letter surrounded by an abbreviation of Gaelic ( we even tried a letter R for garlic at an early stage).
We were reminded of an old orange squash advert

Still struggling, I’m afraid. Some hints to:

Before taking food…….
On Central Time now
And
Precipice blocking river…..
Would be much appreciated
Happy New Year to you all

Yes, after the (for me) great dissatisfaction of last week, a really enjoyable start to the cruciverbal year. Nice one, Kruger

Dylan

Before taking food………ac + abbrev for surgeon in an affectionate term for car or aircraft. Wordplay only

On central………..on = re. + cent + need to remove a letter

Precipice……..think of an elderly pop singer’s first name, embedded in a river. Wordplay only

Surely ‘cen’ for central not ‘cent’, to allow for a +T?

Last word has a letter change, with no letter removal.
