The problem I have is that the only surname that seems to be required on the bottom row hasi seven letters not six and would therefore entail one cell containing two letters. No mention is made of this in the preamble. Am I therefore barking up the wrong tree?
I don't think so. A search in quotes for the six-letter spelling (+ forename) yields over 43,000 hits. A similar search for the most obvious misspelling yields just 7,000 and most of the references are not relevant. Are you sure you have the right name?
Yes, loge, that's one thing I am sure about. I think the definitive answer has to be the source itself, but of course it must be seen not just heard, so may not be available. I can't mention the most reliable written source I have without giving away too much info about the theme, but it's a fairly obvious one and can be checked online.
All done. Unlike most people, it seems, I can't stand the theme, which probably added to my bah-humbugginess! A good crossword though, and a happy Christmas to all elves, large and small.
Looking forward to 27th Dec...
Oh dear! theragman's query now has me doubting my bottom line. May I confirm that it IS of six letters and uses four different ones? Still not cracked the delimitation despite a good night's rest so can't tie everything together.
Well my 'doh!' moment finally arrived. I spent as long on the last couple of steps as I did filling the grid in the first place. Can't understand now why it took me so long!
BC - your bottom line is correct
theragman - I've checked the source and it can't be seen
