I really like your Ad malone - but I think you're one of the few people on here with the necessary qualifications.

Comments read - point taken. Keep it as simple as possible - W. Occam. Daft of me even to think it was a good idea, pace Pootle.

Malone - no offence intended, honest! (Road to Hell paved with good intentions etc. ) Piease forgive. You are much valued and must be cherished by all of us.

I have read the recent posts with more and more incredulity. This is only a crossword as I have said before and so what if some posts give a bit more information than they should. Please don’t go down the code line as it will discourage new solvers from coming here. We are an open house not an elite club.

Isn’t the simplest way to give information that others may not want to see simply to start the post SPOILER ALERT? Or am I missing something?

.... and in cherishing Malone, as volunteer organist, of course I'm not forgetting Norah, our Chere Administrix.

(OK, Q - for goodness sake stop digging!)

Drxx, thanks. I'm sure there are many members who would be up to the task of addressing the nation (of Listener solvers) on Friday afternoons. If we went down the encoding road, I'm sure my shoes would be quickly and easily filled.

Quixote. Thanks for your post at 132, that was very kind of you. I think the status of Listener is such that it arouses strong feelings in many of us. Although I don't necessarily agree with the direction some members would like the threads to take, it's been interesting to read such ... extraordinary 'solutions'.

Norah is the one with the harder - and definitely more thankless - task. She has the responsibility of trying to keep the Forum running as smoothly and amicably as possible. Posting the opening thread, and reminding people (very occasionally) of Norah's preferred procedures doesn't prove too arduous... most of the time.

Malone - Meant it, x.
To be quite clear, I won't be coding, nor, I think, will anyone else.

But I've got my come-uppance - I'm squirming...
Everyone will have noticed my appalling solecism in #134, and will be having little chuckles at my expense - I feel such a klutz...'Administratrix' of course...not to mention (gulp) the missing accent grave in Chère...

And getting Bill Ockham's 'Entia non sunt...' off target (or should it be 'Frustra fit per...'?

Oh the Horror!

I can't speak for anyone else, malone, but it was after reading 'mediation skills' that I ruled myself out (as a firm believer in the approach mentioned the other week, ''sending the boys with cudgels round...'' - or, 'politics by other means', if you prefer).
