Thanks to Everyman for a puzzle that I enjoyed solving but am having trouble summarizing.
Perhaps more difficult than usual. Overall a good example of "what Everyman is supposed to be", but a few small issues...
FOI 6, a bit of a stale clue that I've seen recently. 10 (just a day or two ago in the Indy iirc) and 11 also extremely familiar. 18 not too inspired.
17 seems to be in error: quite sure of my solution, but the parsing seems to incorrectly double a vowel at the expense of another.
On the plus side, many excellent clues that required thought. COD 13 over 15, 24, 4, 1a (crossword staple, but a nice word), 5, 2 and 16.
I'll be interested to see how other forum members enjoyed this.

Sorry, forgot: In Everyman tradition, a rhyming pair and (shortish) "first letters" clue.

Hi Geeker,

The only clue I'm having trouble parsing is 13d, other than that they were all pretty straightforward.

I did have to check to make sure that "one" is indeed a 18d - it is:-)

17a - You're right, it looks like a setter's error - the single letter "uniform" forms part of the "less" and its one of the vowels that appears twice that should be "worn".

Hi Brendan,
13 parses as 3, 2, 5; the three components are fairly standard crossword lingo, but I think the clue is nicely put together.

Sorry Geeker, I'm cracking up! I meant I can't parse 15a.

5d - I'm not sure where the 3rd and 4th letters come from - assuming "replace" is the last 3 letters then it looks like "second" could be ??-? -?? but not ??-??

Don't 11a and 20a strike you as a bit odd, endings-wise?

Brendan, I questioned 5 at first, but it's clever! Replace is (3, 2), not the (3) I initially thought.
15 is a nice subtractive anagram. Think math for "axes".

Or rather "maths"... ;-)
Agreed, the presumed rhyming pair could be considered dubious!

Thanks Geeker, agree - 15a is very good.

5d -Your parsing was also my first thought but I discounted it because Chambers doesn't give it. However, the FreeOnline dictionary does - serves me right for not double-checking from another source šŸ„µ

Yes, in the UK it is most definitely "maths" šŸ˜‚

Much easier than yesterdayā€™s Prize, which I still havenā€™t finished. Thanks to you both for confirming the error in 17. I kept looking thinking I was missing something.

P.S. Iā€™m going with ā€œmathā€ as you can see from my handle, but then Iā€™m in the US too.
