Found this weeks puzzle quite easy but unable to completely
Pharse 22d. Have the answer and first 3 letter word for beginning of answer but not the last 4 letters can’t see where reference to brown fits in.

Hi Thomas,

22d - First 3 letters "blame" then 5 letter "shade of brown" minus the middle letter/"unknown"

I'm puzzled by 12. I have an answer which fits the first three words of the clue if they are the wordplay, but doesn't fit the last three words if they are the definition.

Hi David,

12a - If you add S(ociety) to the front of your answer you'll get a word meaning "rose" (as in 'took flight') - definition is last 3 words

12 Rose (not a girl! ) minus first letter.
A great crossword. I wasted time looking for a rhyming pair this week. Too many good clues to choose COD. Thank you Everyman.

Thanks Brendan. That was my reading. My problem is that I would expect "travelled by canoe" to be something like "paddled", not "rowed".

Really enjoyed this one. Thanks for all the tips in parsing. Like Phil, I didn't have the option of Latin at school, so couldn't parse 3d either. Also couldn't parse last 4 letters of 21, which was my LOI, as I was fixated on the artist part being RA, thinking the definition was 'not unknown' or 'unknown'. Good misdirection!

Like others, hard to choose one COD, but thought 8 and 13 very clever, and really enjoyed 14, 17, 19 and 20.

Really enjoyed it this week - I especially liked the Spooner clue. I can't parse 15ac though?

15a - 3 letter "published" between T & S then 4 letter "plagiarism" + E(liot) - definition is "copy".

Thanks Brendan - I should have seen those three letters for "published".
