Thanks quisling, I began to question it because of the order of the last two instructions. I think the reflective letter change should come last.

I took the reflective letter change to be the one that gives the correct spelling of the hole's location. Anyone agree?

It depends what you mean by correct spelling, Loge. I think you may be mistaken. It’s the 7th highlighted letter, not the 10th. It can be confirmed by the pictorial representation. Without that it’s almost impossible to guess

Yours was my first thought, Loge, but there’s no very clean reflective way to make 23 into 21, alphabetically speaking. Mapping half onto itself is clumsy

I solved my earlier problem by shifting a couple of letters to the left. I'm with Loge on the 'reflective' letter, which gives the location. A bit iffy, perhaps, but having used up a large part of my blank staring quota on this, I'm happy enough.

I'm just beginning this so am way behind you guys but I've already hit a snag ....

I've assumed the 2nd part of 1a begins in the 6th cell in row 1 and ends with an S in cell 13, However, my answer to 13d starts with an E so straight away I have a clash. Have I gone wrong somewhere?

Brendan, I'm just starting too, but 13d. only has 12 letters?
