Do you mean pre alteration? If so ...

6a - 5 letter "brief" as in 'terms of reference' or 'scope' minus its first letter - definition is "issue"

10a - 5 letter word meaning "out of shape" minus single letter "female" - definition is "one".

Hi, I’m stuck with 1 down. I’m guessing the straight clue is bones, and it’s something along the lines of Osseous or Ossify, but I can’t see a four letter shortened version.

It's the plural, agrippa - the usual 2 letters each for 'like' and 'very' [reversed].
