When Norah, site administrator, started these threads, she was keen for only VERY GENTLE hints re the theme. I'd wondered, a few posts ago, if some queries here should really have been on the other thread. I was pleased to see Qusiling's post as it mirrored my thoughts.

I second what Malone has said, VERY GENTLE HINTS only in this thread please. Once they veer towards answers, then please transfer the conversation to the other thread.

The Listener is the only crossword permitted to have two threads, please do not abuse this privilege.

Am using this thread as I can't find the answers one and assume noone will care now the solutions been published.

This is the only Listener to defeat me so far this year so I'm still going at it, 5 weeks on. I now (finally) have a full grid, but am no wiser with the deletions or the theme.

Would appreciate it if someone who may still remember / have a copy of this could confirm the following (if any of these are wrong I'll give up):

11 is geta - seems to sort of work but can't quite see the wordplay
I should have 3 blank cells in my initial filled grid
The removed items read '3 like plane figures: group of 64 east of two little points, tango in corner, group of 16 in centre; tool, grape and vetch.
Given exclusions are from triangular number clues and tango in corner is triangular I think the 3 plane figures I am erasing are triangles.
Group of 64 East of 2 little points makes no sense to me but there is a 64 cell inverted triangle to the right of the start of clue 2, which, if I also delete the t in the corner gives me a nice symmetrical shape left, so I am guessing that's what the 64 is?

And, after hours of grid staring, and being put off by the initially empty cells, 5 minutes after posting I finally see it. I was hoping that might happen.
