Yes, the Serpent numerical in May was certainly good prep for this puzzle! Thanks Poat, really enjoyed this.

My longest grid stare EVER produces one of the most satisfying PDM's ever. Eventually spotting the shorter name and googling that + the thematic shape helped me finally spot the three shapes in the final grid - and finally to understand what the extremities of those shapes referred to. The recurring theme, up to the end game, had me running down dozens of blind alleys and cursing Poat for flummoxing me for so long, but I have nothing but sheer admiration of this puzzle - another masterpiece.

I'm in a similar place to where you where Gitto.

I have deleted as per instructions I think and have a grid with 120 degree symmetry. I thought the 'extreme cells' would be obvious given the theme but no such luck. Perhaps my deletions are wrong?

A hint regarding 'extremities' might help - if they aren't simply apexes. Thanks.

granama1, if like me, you are looking for thematic objects to yield the extreme cells you are going up one of my blind alleys. Spotting the names, and one in particular, then google that with thematic, and Wiki reveals everything. A lot of contributors have commented on how satisfying the end game is, and that was beginning to wind me up, but how right they all were. If it helps, the 3 figures are not regular polygons.

Thanks Gitto, I'll persevere and give it another Paddington hard stare.

The polygons I have aren't regular (but have symmetry) so I think I'm on the right track.

Realising a famous German was an ablenkungsmanover (one accent is required there) made me see I had approached the endgame from the wrong, ahem, angle.

Please give me a hint to the thematic names. Is one a graphic artist? Is one a British Roger? I don't know where they are hiding!

Sounds to me like those posts should be on the other thread, surely? Once you’re suggesting thematic names it moves to answers
