RENE is the nearly universal cryptic crossword Frenchman, not specific to any setter as far as I can tell.

Learning aid was (plurally) in the Everyman 2 weeks ago, so surprised to see it recycled so quick.

Clue was: "Vulgar wiseacre's teaching aids (5,5)"

RENE was in the Prize I think.

This is in reply to Becky (comment number 63). You're not alone - I also can't parse that clue (10a), and Chrise's reply doesn't shed any light on it for me either! Chrise, can you, or anyone else, elaborate please? Or Becky - maybe you get it now? Maybe I have the wrong answer, as it doesn't read as anything backwards, but if it's wrong, I can't see what else it could be!

It's a predatory male (e.g. of Wall Street) with 2 single letter starters from word in clue inside.

Although the predatory male is backwards

Ah, I finally get it! Many thanks - don't think the penny would ever have dropped otherwise!

Sorry for long absence all, its been a busy few weeks so this is the first time in ages I've managed the crossword and had anything to say.
My second thought on solving 5d was the Pink Floyd reference, I'm afraid for me this followed recall of Maggie's hideously misguided penal policy for young offenders. The other musical link (that I'm surprised nobody else has brought up) was the wonderful album by the very wonderful Texan Michelle [last word of 5d]ed, the album title is [5d]ed and it's well worth exploring her works, particularly this and 'Texas Campfire Tapes', and her back story. Comfortably deserves her place in company with the Mikado, Pink Floyd & Billy Bragg - I wouldn't be at all surprised if she had performed or recorded with Billy, who I'm looking forward to seeing (twice) at the end of the year

I almost forgot, thanks to Everyman for a fun puzzle and to everyone here for help with a few parsings, esp 16d. Have a good week all, and stay safe

luko, you've been missed on the forum. Thanks for the musical reference.
I don't know whether Billy Bragg and Michelle [redacted] have been on stage at the same time, but they have appeared on the same bill. This link (tinyurl to avoid spoiler) comes from Chicago, 1988: https://tinyurl.com/7ppwwhyd
