"Save it for later" by the English Beat (as they were called here) was a significant hit in the US in the early '80s. I like that tune and still hear it on "classic" radio stations from time to time.

Yes, but over here they were known as The English Beat because there was already a US band called The Beat. I also like their cover of Tears of a Clown. I think Sooner or Later was their most popular over here.

Geeker is right - the song was actually called Save It For Later. I should know better.

Courtesy of Wikipedia, Billy Bragg's It Says Here also features 5.

Being from across the pond, I was unaware of the phrase's modern connotation until I listened to it.

Not at all familiar with Billy Bragg's music, but a friend is a big fan.

Thanks. I didn’t realise that 5d comes in ‘Us and Them’!

Quick claim to fame - I've appeared on stage with Billy Bragg singing I wanna Be a Cosmonaut - when he was with a band called Riff Raff:-)

Wow, Brendan! You've got a veritable treasure trove of musical memories. I (think I) recall one a few months ago about attending an early Jam concert for a ticket costing a pittance?
The phrase 5 in "Us and Them" never registered with me, since it's in the (lower volume) spoken section in the middle of the song. Must have noticed at some time, but the words didn't stick in my mind like sung lyrics do.

You're right, Poplar Town Hall (or Civic Hall) £0.50 at the door 😀

The Billy Bragg appearance was really awkward because the keyboard player in his band, Riff Raff, wanted to join my band so invited us to the gig to see him play. I don't think he'd told BB though so when myself and the guitarist were invited up, I was like .... shall I? shan't I? but the overwhelming desire to be famous kicked in and up I went🤣 Thankfully mobile phones hadn't been invented so there's no embarrassing YouTube footage - Phew!

I recall this grid in a puzzle where one or more of the clues referred to the “4 H’s” in the grid pattern. It might have been by Brendan. If anyone knows what I’m referring to I’d be interested to find it, although it’s entirely possible I’m misremembering!
Thought this was rather good and continues the good run of Everyman’s in recent weeks. Particularly liked 5d and 8d.

Interesting story Brendan!
