Wow, thanks for pointing out my error in 5, Brendan!
I had in mind a tonsorial style common to yobs, and arrived at a different second word. Even though it didn't parse...

Glad you got it sorted.

You can probably guess what album I'm going to spend the rest of the night relaxing to šŸ˜Ž

Hi Brendan & geeker,
No rhyming pair today and I felt the whole thing was a bit disconnected. Some of the clues made little sense and seemed strained.
25a is familiar from one the other day.
20a has two birds and one more common than the other. Of course I saw the common one first, much to my shame, especially seeing the answer is in this neck of the woods too.
8d certainly took some untangling even though the answer was clear.
14a is all that one sport that some can handle and others shudder at.
Overall a gentle locked down ramble.

Hi Mystogre,

14a - I think the first bird you mention is just there by coincidence, as it forms part of the longer "film" - much like the little furry creature in 16d šŸ˜‚

Brendan, in my old age I listen mostly to jazz and classical...I guess I'll spin The Mikado and listen for the phrase in question. šŸ˜‚

Nothing wrong with a bit of jazz and who doesn't like classical:-)

I have to confess to having to Google The Mikado reference but your dead right, it's there - and nearly 100 years before Pink Floyd:-)

Mystogre, yesterday's Prize also seemed a bit disconnected, but I still rated it highly because of the overall challenge. Maybe this Everyman lacks a little something aesthetically. I still enjoyed it because of the handful of very strong clues. However, I do find the difficulty level weirdly uneven.

Brendan and geeker, youā€™ve sent me Dow the rabbit hole looking for occurrences of 5d in music. I found one in the Song ā€œStand Down Margaretā€ by The (English) Beat. Thatā€™s the one Iā€™ll be listening to.

I donā€™t know what was going on with my autocorrect in that last post. Weird.

Hi MPRS,

I had no idea the phrase was so prevalent in lyrics, although The Beat's usage varies in the last word. Still, that's a good song, as is Mirror In The Bathroom and the band are well worth listening to:-)

Are they well known in the US?
