It's a long time since I watched Life on Earth, but I think I remember that, although the focus was on animals, Attenborough didn't totally ignore other life forms.

My favourite bit was the Velvet worm!

Malone, Grunger

It was nice to see this clue in the Times today:

American writer, female, Emily Dickinson, for example? (7)

I am sure you approve of the answer.

Thanks, Jigjag, I didn't do today's puzzle. I like the clue, dislike the answer!

I'm probably missing something, but the solution I have isn't cryptic. Is it from a quick crossword?

If I'm right, I don't like it either!

Perhaps ‘Hardy character’ rather than ‘female’ might be better?

Poe, Hardy and Dickinson were contemporaries.

Thanks jono - I see the cryptic component now. However it works just as well as a "Quick" clue!

BBC News website today:

Liz Truss has been in office for just 45 days - the shortest tenure of any UK prime minister. The second shortest serving PM was George Canning, who served for 119 days after dying in 1827.

They have now amended the "after" to "before".

They have taken their eye off the ball today. For some time there was an article on the report on child abuse that referred to a "seven year injury".

Mind you, not as bad as the cricket report last month which, for several minutes, said "and Gleeson leaves the pitch for a *uck", where the * wasn't the intended "d"....

Has anyone heard "begs the question" used correctly recently - i.e. assume the answer before asking it?
