Hi, mprs. A Geordie, being from Tyneside in the north-east of England, might be earning a "NE wage".

Coming along nicely, since Norwich are taking a hiding, feel comfortable In asking for help.
Grid finished except for 14 down (? Groups) and 27 across. If someone could give me a nudge I ‘ll move on to the next phase.
Thanks

Thanks, will37 and ixion. I did not know what a Geordie is; should have looked it up.

Hi Williamseal,

14d - Yes, Charge = ??? + "adults" minus middle 2 letters = Groups

27a - Wick is a place in Scotland and this is a term for a "lad" from there - First 5 letters are 2, 3 and are "where to go" (for a wee) reversed/"back" + usual single letter for Spain.

27a - only the 2 letter word is reversed and goes after the 3 letter word - sorry for the confusion.

I'm joining the grid-starers! As usual, falling at the last hurdle: I have the song and the nth letters so could someone explain the last-but-one sentence of the preamble please?

Belatedly to agree with Ixion and the Prof: I also think 26 is an anagram of KEETH (homophone indicated by “called”, “over” as anagram indicator). Hmmm.

20 "participants
6 "non participants"

Some of the 20 only appear once in the grid so start with them (180 degree symmetry) and you'll see a pattern emerge as per the preceding verse
