I wasn't too drunk I had CODE as first word of 10A + electronic reading device for the other 7 letters which made no sense but at least I got 2 words that fitted clue a bit.

Of course I had the phoneme for 9A which messed me up for a long time ;)

Phonemes commuting does not help (as in A sounds like B means B sounds like A also).

I got lucky, 20 was FOI, which gave a good idea of theme. Soon thereafter, I got the thematic short (rather easy) homophone across clue, which made the theme clear.

Yeah I meant homophone rather than phoneme :)

Having the wrong one for 9A made me erase the correct answer for 2D (which is a bit obscure anyway). Still not got 1A or 1D

1a: defn. "taste", parses as (3,3)
1d: defn. "study". A little tricky, parses as "condition rising" (2) inside "man on the street" (5, slang).

I just can't see the anagram. It may be another of Paul's convoluted clues.

I've not got 17A either. It's terribly difficult even when you got all the theme words.

Missing 4 (1D, 6D, 17A, 21A). 15A may be wrong

I re-read Chrise at 50 but still found it incomprehensible. Then I got some of the answers and I think I have it now, though I still need 18d and 25ac . I also understand the case sensitive nature of the themed clues.

I've got most of the top, but not so much of the bottom half.

I've now got an answer 10ac. My previous suggestion was meant as a joke, but I cannot get 8d despite all the clues above.

I now have ?P?C? E??????? Are my letters correct?

What on earth does 19d mean?. I've only got the last letter - a T.

18D is an anagram and is part of the theme.

25A is 2 of the themes, bit sneaky.., 2nd theme indicator, remove the last letter and rearrange to get another theme word.
