Green tick achieved, I had the first letter of 15a wrong. Easy mistake to make I’d say

Can hardly believe I've managed to complete this (with help fromforum!). Now I feel I really should have been looking for a life instead! :-)

Really struggling to get started - is 24 a the anagram?

I wouldn't really call 24 an anagram. More a "nested" clue: exterior is "comrade" (4); inside is [one (1) inside reversed "voice" (5)].

That was a pulling teeth exercise. I finished, although I actually solved only five clues. The rest of my answers were just reverse engineering from the crossers (with acknowledgements to OneLook Dictionary).

I'm afraid the hints on here were mostly too subtle for me, but the one about clues beginning A or I was helpful with 18, which I had as a double definition: "Titanic"!

In case anyone else is doing this on the paper version, there are no special instructions there! Had to use the app to find them (not that I yet understand what's going on!)

Thanks for that, Ian. I’ve only just started the paper version and was very confused by the refs to ‘special instructions’. Thought I was going mad!

I'm really struggling with this, I don't know what the theme is at all. So far I have 9 clues in, but probably none of the themed clues. Any hints for 14d eg what the fish or temporary buildings are???

14d the definition is "kind". The fish and temporary homes one is 8d.

The thematic ones are 9 of the 10 that have a single vowel as first word. In each case the vowel is the first letter of something significant for the clue.
