Thank you Aver. Nice and quick. Could even watch the football now, except we’re not interested. Heard of the game, but never played it.

I have completed the grid apart from 30a, which is driving me up the wall. I also have the speaker and all other aspects of the extra letters. Now onto the end game, which is taking me longer than the solving of the clues.

Stuck on extra letter in 30a. Can’t make sense of ‘what ruined a …’ Also although I have the instructions for how to resolve clashes, I don’t know how to do it! Please send help!

30a - a person; name obtainable from wordplay - very definitely not in Chambers.

Got it now, never heard of him - but I suppose last weeks Listener would have been a stroll in the park for him.

All done now, but I do question the "symmetry" of the 14 clashes. The final symmetry is unquestionable.

I was fortunate enough to see 30 across play live when I was in my teens. One of the finest of his generation.

Nice puzzle with an neat, unambiguous endgame.
