A few people have expressed disgruntlement with the symmetry. This seems to be due to the fact that most of the time TWO pairs of clashes make it seem like the symmetry is 90 degrees. But a there are some pairs that require 180 degree symmetry - the conventional way the bars in crossword grids are arranged (i.e. turning the grid upside down reveals the same pattern.)
Hope I've made that clear.

I don't understand the fuss about the symmetry either. As a mathematician, I don't have any issue with it. As a longtime crossword enthusiast, I think jif73 is right on the nose - this is a very common type of symmetry in crosswords.

smellyharry, I thought your response (post 59) to krauton's blatantly explicit posts (52 & 56) was very restrained. I was considering asking krauton if I could send my address so s/he could come round and fill in my grid for me next week...

Belated thanks again to malone at #69.
I have been out, but now all complete.
The penny took a long time to drop! About the commonness of a certain letter in the grid!

Hi Jif73, can you give me a nudge about where to find the ‘rude boy’?

I can see one in the top of 33d, 34d and 21d - the cells are all touching but not consecutive so maybe Jif73 means somewhere else.

No idea if this is what Jif refers to but there is a B at 13 and TOTOM follows a circuitous path from there.

Near to the QUINCE set, there’s F-(C or A)-UTE. A jumbled SNOUT is nearby.

I often wonder if these sorts of things are echoes from early drafts by the setter that proved impossible to fit into the final construction, or just coincidences, found by over-searching solvers.

I do suspect, sadly, probably the latter.

Chapeau to Jif and HW7 for spotting the two rude boys. I have enough trouble locating the things we are required to find!
