in my previous post I was referring to the values of the clashes, I seem to have two and don't see the significance.

If I understand correctly what you're asking, Planks - the lower value is the numerical value of the letter to resolve the clash, and the higher value also will when you subtract 26.

I'm still stuck on 18ac and 19d- is the latter in the dictionary?

Not sure about parsing for 11ac, 34d and 39d,15d

The message is received but not understood. In particular, the three letter word meaning wet earth has me foxed. Is it correct?

19d is in the dictionary, you may be being confused by the positioning of clashes (as I was). The wet earth is correct. 18ac, last four words are def.

The answer to both your questions is yes, dylan, whilst the first two and last two letters of the first word of 34d are removed, leaving an anagram, an unusual 4 letter word for drag is added to a cutting tool, reversed, for 11a, 39d is the first letter of shocked followed by the longer abbreviation for about and balls less all and s & 15d is an abbreviation for moment around the plural of Indonesian oxen less the s.

Thanks to both of you for such prompt replies. I'm still puzzled by 19d, as I assumed there were no clashes in it- I already have 14, in three sets of squares and a horizontal pair. More work needed!
