I am still struggling with 1a, 6d and 8d amongst others. Any hint?

1d is five letter word for value minus last letter plus Roman fifty Def is first word.

Yes, that's what I did to produce the grid entry, but there's no definition in Chambers for the original word being a 'key organ', whatever that is...!

It's in Chambers, theragman, as a rarely singular noun.

As ever I'm a little behind the pace. Would someone give me an indication for the Chilean's sport? I only really know about Rugby and they don't play it much there.

Symmetry suggested to me that here ought to be a clash in the first cell of 35 across since there is one in the first letter of 36 across. Reading the thread there isnt one there but there are two in 19 down. Is that right? If so I'll battle on a bit more, taking a break to see my country play tomorrow afternoon.
