planks, that is the lucky guess that I mentioned earlier, still struggling to sort out the message from the across clues.

Loge, very lead I get seems to have an F in it, and I have none in my grid. Are the last 3 of the 7 1,3,4?

That should read every, not very - and it seems that you are not allowed to correct spelling mistakes right away!!

This, for me, has descended into a tedious internet trawl for the the version, out of the plethora that seems to exist, fitting the message from the across clues. The sun is shining so I think I have better things to do just now. Perhaps I'll finish it another day.

I could not agree more with you planks. I does annoy me when the crossword itself is relatively easy only to become a tedious, aggravating and boring hope for some serendipitous google success. I don't mind if the preamble and/or the missing letter/word ploy gives reasonable direction, but for me at least, this one fails in that respect.

Gitto, but the message is (2,1,3,6,1,3,4) if that's what you're after. The initial (2) is a plural. The gist (if I've understood it correctly, never a given) is that a certain sign associated with musical notation needs to be added to some of the cells depicting the 5-letter work (four in all).

I'm with planks and gitto. Relatively straightforward gridfill but no idea what the first half of the message means. Not bothered about trawling t'internet following random wild geese.
