Thanks Gitto, I'll struggle on. I have the across message but I've put it into both Google and Edge and nothing of any practical use comes back - certainly not the name of a musician.

Was he/she born 100 years ago this week? Only I've gone through a pretty big list and no-one with the initials EG comes up.

Morning all. Perhaps a useful pointer is that the endgame regarding the best-selling work is similar to that of Ifor's IQ 1697. It's blogged in detail on Fifteen Squared if you missed that one. The across message is a refinement; if you know what the cells represent, the last word of the message is the key.

The thematic person was born on 15th June, 100 years ago.

brendan, look up famous people with those initials - EG is on that list, just over 3% of the way through it!

That is EXACTLY what I was afraid of loge. I have trawled youtube (which let me solve IQ1697), but so far hit nothing but blanks. This is infuriating, but at least I've got the football to look forward to.

Gitto, I found it easier to look for a sheet version of the work. I did an image search and selected the one that looked least complicated, as it just has the basic tune. I can't really post a link as the title of the work appears in the URL.

I stumbled across the person, who I have never heard of before today, by googling four likely-looking words in the grid in contiguous cells.
