Thanks Lumen, it is such a visually pleasing puzzle to finish - I don't send mine in so went a bit overboard and not only coloured in tweety pie but drew a thick black border around it 😀

52A is the one requiring a string of letters to be removed.

defn small, anag (repaired) of what's left

42D (I think) usual abbr for lecturer, expert (2,2), with the rest being the defn

42: the last three words are the definition (with R misprinted as D)
L(ecturer) + two-word phrase meaning expert on

52: This is the one with a string of letters to be removed. If you do that the clue is Small ---t seen recently finally repaired
