Oops. Sorry Nelson, I missed that you'd already referred to the book cover. It's quite an odd depiction but could have been odder if it was the Donnie Darko version!

I think I've got this all done but have a slight niggle over 14d.

If I've got it right, and each shaded letter has a mirror opposite, then the S at the end of the first word should be shaded - the problem I have is that the wordplay for the first word comes from "King Edward's" which has an S at the end - so wouldn't that mean the S is not ignored and therefore shouldn't be shaded?

I didn't notice that when solving but good point, now you mention it. I guess the apostrophe S is a connector (signifying "has") to the W, rather than part of the answer. An in A's B = AB.

Thanks Loge,

My problem is that if this was a normal clue and someone posted a query on here about the parsing, specifically where the S come's from, wouldn't we all say from the 's at the end of Edward's? Yet here we have to ignore it.

Guess so, though I suppose it would depend on how the clue was worded, i.e.whether the wordplay element after the Y indicated an S or not.
