Hello! Can anyone give me a very broad hint for 15 across AND 15 down? Thanks!

Hi Izzythedram,

15a - Is a homophone of a "shot" one "plays (on the) green" - definition is a US word meaning "duffer" as in a 'stupid person'.

15d - 2 letter abbr. of "prince" + a 6 letter word for a (Chinese) "tea" minus its first letter/"topless" - definition is "(make) more drawn out"

Thanks very much! I had only heard that US word with the first 2 letters being 'CL' rather than 'P'. I thought that 15 down was that, but the definition didnt quite make sense to me. I would have thought to 'make' more drawn out, rather than to get more drawn out. Am I getting that wrong?

Thanks Izzy, I agree about the definition, that's why I put (make) in brackets.

If you think of ‘get’ as a joining word, and not part of the definition, then it works I think

I still dont like it because you dont 'get' more drawn out, you 'get' 'draw out'

I found the forum more interesting than the crossword today although the crossword wasn't bad! I think we need a new abbreviation ROOD for Remark of the Day in the forum; my vote goes to Yevrah @13 which gave me a laugh out loud moment as I too didn't understand the explanation of some of the abbreviations. I loved the attempts at 22d and my vote on that goes to Phil10000 @47 but does he fail the 15 syllable test?

I liked 7d - short and sharp. But my COD is 1a; very clever for "lose it" to be both a command and a definition. Thanks for the parsing of 13d - I'd never have worked that out. On 25a, I'm more used to "Gains" as the first word of that phrase; is the answer an Americanism?

ROOD isn't quite right, is it? ROD or ROTD.
