Another week another fun Everyman.

No theme, at least none that I could see, but I did spot one flower, a Roman emperor, an Asian city and an Italian composer.

There doesn't seem to be a rhyming pair but, rather unusually, 5 across answers sort of do rhyme - sort of!

If you get stuck, there is a long anagram in the downs and a couple in the acrosses.

COD - I've picked 1d for its smooth surface.

I couldn't find a theme or rhyming pair either.
Thanks to Everyman, fun and eclectic puzzle. The last 2 weeks' Prizes have been real blockbusters IMO, which rendered the subsequent Everymans slightly anticlimactic.
19 made me think I stumbled on a Private Eye puzzle! The word also appeared in yesterday's Prize.
FOI 8, LOI 7. COD 23 (the pieces fit together really well), 15d and 20 runners-up.

It was odd to see that 'theatrical' term crop up again so soon after yesterday's appearance in the Prize.

Hi Brendan and Geeker. No, I cannot find a rhyming pair this week either. But I did notice a few double letters and a lot of repeated letters in answers. More than usual I felt.
I also wondered about Private Eye with two references.
I also felt this was more straightforward than some of the recent ones.

Thought there might be a mini-Nina down the E fringe, but 3 and 7 are the only answers to which it might apply, so surely just a coincidence.

I think my COD would be 25a given that is a clue within a clue. I should ask the real crossword afficionados if that is a common device.

Yes, it is used from time to time - It's an ingenious device whereby one part of the answer forms an instruction for solving the other part.

I see what you mean about the double letters. Also, 5 half the early across clues all share a common ending.

I think he means the rightmost vertical column, indicating S’s. But I think it is just a coincidence, not a Nina.

All the three long clues have G’s, as meant in 1a?
