Thanks Smithsax

Would never have guessed the synonym for 'buns' Any idea where the 'an. in what would be 1 down comes from?

Your help appreciated.

loge - yes you are correct. I must admit I did not really tie up all the loose ends after completing the grid.

All done and parsed and all extra words found. Just the right level of difficulty to keep me interested.
2 questions though. Firstly, I do not know enough about the theme to know if there is a connection between the nine items other than the obvious. I.e. why these nine? Could a subscription-only monthly crossword collection also be included in this list, or do the nine have something specific in common.
Also, I read somewhere that each set of 4 weeks of listener crosswords will contain a couple of easier puzzles, one medium and one hard. How did this crossword rank?

Thanks, brendan (post 33). That ties up the last query for me. Well spotted!

With respect to the choice of species - the common factor is just that that have names that can be split into two words, rather than having any common habitat or other link.

Initially it looked like they were going to be waders - but other definitely correct unclued answers are definitely not waders.

I'm finding this much more difficult than everyone else, plus I got a late start. Perhaps a hint on the first clue would get me going. Is the definition feldspar? Just a gentle hint please, not a full parsing.

Begins A of course but does it contain anagram of Iodine? Or just an I? Struggling with this one.

MPRS - would say def is “making a feldspar”

Lewap - not sure the I recognise that the difficulty is done on a four week basis.

If one was to use the Magpie grades of A-D, where A is simplest (don’t think a Listener would ever be E), I would say we’ve had one D this year so far, with the Weaving clues and the rest spread fairly evenly.

Although this was a jigsaw and could have been tough, it was relatively generously clued so would grade it a B.

All pretty subjective of course.
