Finished but what is the significance of the title please? Also the 9th example is a bit different from the other 8 in terms of habitat or am I wrong?

Afetr cold solving around 75% I got lucky with the first ten letter word that I tried on the top row. It then fell pretty quickly. Is there any significance to the title, apart from the obvious?

Re the title:-

The word " a blockhead" is a synonym for both the first 3 letters and again for the last 6 letters.

The title defines the 9th example in the same way as all the other 8 were derived. The 9th is of the same type as the others.

There is a poem by a person named Goosey about the ninth example. I think that is how it is 'suggested'

Greetings all
This one was within my competence level and was a satisfying puzzle. I've completed but left with some loose ends.

Can someone help me parse "Of newborn age, feeding on buns" (8)?

Also I can't see where the two words 'an' and 'on', which are second in their thematics, come from. Any help welcomed.
Thanks

Of is extra - giving the on you are looking for. Three letter word for age within a five letter word for buttocks (buns).

Should have said five letter word for on buttocks. The on is not extra.

Def is "of newborn" - wordplay is 3-letter word meaning an age inside a word meaning "referring to buttocks" (2nd def in Chambers)

The "an" comes from "one" in the quilting party clue. There is some disagreement as to the "on" - I think it's from "performing" in the US musician clue.

Hi Williamseal
On is the extra word. Definition is first two words of clue and 3 letter synonym for age within a term for buttocks (buns)
I thought an came from the quilting party clue
