I would appreciate some help parsing 1d and 25a. If 25 was reduced to a Quick clue with a one word definition it would have been a write in without a second thought. I can't see the wood for the trees. I don't have 'magic powers' I'm afraid.

I use the Guardian app Jono but never get a green tick for the Prize or Everyman, I assume because the answers are not available as a ‘cheat word’ option. Do you normally get one for Everyman?

Hi Waggers, yes I normally get a green tick straight away and I can see them for all the previous Everymans. Same for the prize including yesterday’s. Curious

25a: id + three letter abbreviation for magical perception inside the synonym for cutting. Definition is funny.

1a: anagram of first and last letters of ‘some’ + last letter of ‘blind’ + ‘clue’. Definition is cloister.

Tx Mathi. Had a crosser wrong in 1a. Completely lost in the woods with 25. I'll have the theme tune of the X-Files as an earworm for the rest of the day.

Thanks Everyman for a fun crossword on a miserable day.

My COD is probably 17d. I'm normally not too keen on homophones but that was a good one.
12a was also a well disguised anagram with a good surface.

Got ‘em all thanks to your help. Even 15d makes good sense. No idea, however, how to parse 23a. I’ve got the milliner in the middle and a synonym for ‘silly talk’ (I think) and think I understand ‘not dealer’ but as for the whole word, ????

Thanks.

23a I took out a synonym for dealer from a synonym of candle making and put a synonym for milliner in the middle.
