23D Blimey O'Reilly! Took me forever to parse, even after help from the forum, because I didn't know that candle-making synonym. Incidentally, nor does the COD, which includes only the more familiar definition of the associated noun -- 'a dealer in supplies for ships' -- and no verb at all. Although if I'd bothered reading down to the origin I would have seen 'candle-maker'. Doh!

In that vein I have always wanted to be whelmed. Not overwhelmed or underwhelmed, just whelmed!!!

Yes I too have never been whelmed. Likewise lockdown has been making me somewhat unhinged, but upon a return to normality I won’t become “hinged”.

At last. FOI 11a, LOI 16a because I found a different type of graph line that managed to fit, but it made no sense for the clue, sorted out a couple of other errors along the way. COD I'll go with 15d or 16d, can't decide. Enjoyed the alliterative clues. Wishing you all good day.

I enjoyed this one - found it a little easier than usual. Got the bottom half 1st and struggled a little to get going top half. COD is 15d - now that you’ve helped me understand it - I did have the wrong answer and couldn’t parse of course! Also like 22d and like others fell for the South American trap at 1st. 18d was neat too.

Was about to say can’t parse 17d but it’s just clicked - very amusing!

Has anyone using the Guardian App (the app not the online version) got a “green tick”? I don’t which would normally mean I have something wrong, but I don’t think so

Morning all. Very enjoyable puzzle today I thought but I am stuck on 19 down. I’ve got a few options but can’t parse it. Maybe it’s the first two letters that I’m struggling with? All help greatly appreciated

19d ‘finally’ is a final letters indicator and ‘regularly’ is an alternating letters indicator. The definition is at the end of the clue. I would normally use a different spelling for the word but this is perfectly acceptable

Thanks Jono. I had the regularly part but it was the first, or sho day, last two letters I struggled with. All finished now
