I think 10,33 must be an early candidate for ‘Ugliest clue of the year’.

Wow Loge - you finished it early! As one who has heard of the film but never seen it, is that a disadvantage? Would watching the film explain the endgame word, or is the apparent randomness of the word simply part of the point alluded to by the quotation? I'm happy with the word I have as it tallies with the cryptic clue and resolves the unfinished set but as an endgame it seems utterly bizarre.

Mind the cheese is quite bizarre too!

I agree S_Pugh - the bit about "random selection from the container" seems quite otiose to me, though I may be missing something (wouldn't be the first time). From what you say you've got all you need, if you're satisfied that the final word completes the set.

Agreed pka1 - 10,33 looks like something out of Finnegans Wake but that's a common problem with clues that run together. They're so long that you lose the drift before you finish reading.

I've got to the end, but I don't understand the sentence in the rubric 'The word represents an item randomly selected from the container'. This suggests that the word relates to the contents of the container, which I do not understand. However, it is correct since it solves the constructed clue and it 'completes the set' of extra words.

Hard work and especially frustrating since I kept on losing track of which clue I was solving.

I think the idea is that any of the 26 words could have been selected as the final one to complete the set, why is why it's random. The words share a feature with the contents of the container, but I don't think they are literal representations. Hope that makes sense!

I've made a tentative start, but puzzled in a few places.

I don't see the parsing for the last 3 letters in 12d

29ac doesn't seem to be in my on-line Chambers. I can see that the last part is an anagram, but what about the first part?

The first answer to 9/25 seems to have a simple answer, which doesn't seem to be defined in the clue?

Thanks in anticipation

12: E(uropean) R(ook) O(ver) Cook is the misprinted word

29 is in Chambers. The misprint is in "chose" (think dull task)

First answer 9/25 - "make" has a misprint and is the def

I can't fond the quotation, a hint as to what film it is from would be appreciated.
