If it's any consolation I only managed to solve one clue on my first read through, so it's worth sticking with - not least because there are some truly excellent and funny clues.

Finally figured out the parsing for 23d - only took 4 hours:-)

Hi Pca,

23d - 3 letters abbr. for what follows Nov 31 but instead of being followed by 1 it's followed by O because there's only 30 days in November (I presume that's what is meant by "fancifully") + (ange)R - definition is "look".

23a: Nice. I was trying back or pro going upwards in anger, with the last part or letter cut. I still find the term ’fancifully’ quite vague.

I'm having app issues again. I will have to wait until I have bought the hard copy later. This crossword is not showing in my version of The Guardian app today.
