33a - Is an anagram of a 4 letter word in the clue + G(ood) - definition is "Ed(mund Spencer's") word for "judgement"

It's definitely worth remembering "Ed" - he appears with some frequency.

9d - Original answer is 2 letters for "concerning" surrounded by "two tons" - definition is an uncommon (at least to me) word meaning "waste allowance".

You then need to replace the first 2 letters with a thematic item.

I thought I was doing well, but have ground to halt now with gaps remaining in NW corner. Must be several thematics there I think.
A gentle steer for 1d would be a great help, thanks.
Also don't have first letter for 24a as can't parse it at all ! Dogs or armour?
