Hi CandleDave,

After the hash i made of parsing 32d i hesitate to offer any hints but....

38d - Single letter for "one" + 2 letters for "wearing" (as in "she looks good "wearing" blue) + E(aring) - definition is a French word for "senior

42a If you reverse the answer/"contrarily" and add the single letter for C(ollege) you get an ancient alphabet/"characters"

Thanks Brendan, should have seen 38D, I could not get head away from “wearing” being the instruction part of the cryptic.

42A - well that’s just ridiculous, I’m guessing that precisely no-one will get that from the cryptic!

Are the 8,8,7 thematic words like the other 12, or are they thematic items?

Thematic items you could physically hold.

Not sure I could hold one of them (unless I have it wrong!)

I think some of my 23 letters must be wrong I have no C's nor D's - is that correct?

No D’s but you need a C.

I have the 23 letters but am struggling to find the 3 items. Do the 2 8 letter ones start with T and C please ? I'm having terrible problems with wind!
