OptO, sorry for the messy grammar,

"relate to a word in the title of a film by the name derived from the across misprints" should have read - "relate to a word in the title of a famous film by the man whose name is derived from the across misprints"

Got it, glad you got it sorted and yes, it was a great puzzle:-)

Thanks - I have got it now. I found the 4 down clues to be altered, but kept on looking for names and saw that 4 answers could be altered to Amos, Ewart, Stella and Vera. These were red herrings.

The across person wrote The Rose and I thought this was relevant, having 1A, but I eventually realised what this was altered to, and the synonyms.

Brilliant puzzle with so much to it.

I also enjoyed this brilliant puzzle. Particularly liked that the across words altered were female names rather than any words. Also that the down names were great Man Utd players.
