I thought this was rather loose in places. I hadn't heard the expression at 3d, and Googling it seems to indicate that the definition isn't quite right. Where is the definition in 13d?

What's going on in 19a? I don't see the definition, and a native would laugh at the "homophone", if that's what's intended!

I did love 24a.

For 19a I think the “aspiration” is the wordless exhale that you make for the first letter.

I also can’t parse 13d - I could see what I thought was the answer soon enough, just couldn’t see from the clue where it was defined.

Hadn’t heard of 3d either.

Otherwise a decently enjoyable week.

I struggled with the pluralisation in 13d, I thought it should have been figures not figure. I guess if you play one of these it’s the final act, but it’s odd I agree.

Yes, apart from a lack of convincing definition in 13d, there's no indication of the last letter. Probably an error, as jono suggested.

In 19a the solution I have is a ground station, not a space station. Also the locals would pronounce the first syllable WHO rather than HEW.

Have to agree that 13D does not appear to have a definition? 19A is also earth based rather than in space??

I actually found the Speedy crossword tougher than this Everyman one!

The answer to 19a could be the name of the train station in Dublin, making train station the definition

Well-researched, jono, but if that's the case, where does the space station fit it?

I guess it sounds (a bit, accents aside) like that place in Texas, which while I admit is ground based, does deal with space related matters and describes itself as a “space center”

You're doing a good job of defending a poor clue, jono. In your latest interpretation, what's the "aspiration" doing? I think it can only be telling us to put an H at the start of a rather more well known station!

“with aspiration” = when spoken

If you put a letter in front of the London station where’s the instruction to change the second letter? We could go round in circles all day on this I suspect!
