Good fun this week. I'll leave it Brendan and the gang for deeper analysis. COD 24A

Hi Alzy,

I really enjoyed this though I did find it a bit harder than usual, especially the long Capital at 12a which, despite having more than half the letters, was still my LOI.

There was definitely an "arty" feel to it, with novelists, painters, a poet and a character from one of my favourite plays.

COD there are so many clever and witty clues to choose from, but I'll go with 11d for its super smooth surface.

Thanks to Everyman.

Stay safe:-)

Amazed that 12a was in proper order. That makes it my COD.

Hi Alohaned,

I know, that must have took Everyman quite a bit of working out. As I said earlier, it's not a capital I've heard of but now I know it, it's one I'm not likely to forget:-)

12a: yes, it is some obscure city name. Though I could guess that it was some anagram, I had to use the missing letter solver in this web page to find it. Overall, the puzzle was bit difficult with many proper names.

Quite tricky for Everyman I thought. Enjoyed 20 and 24a. That city though!
Also nice to see a nod to English cricket given yesterday’s performance; and another mention of the Gin and It!
Everyman’s trademark of two related clues is present but no rhyming slang this week, unless I missed it.
Cheers all

Hi Jono, hi Mathi,

I couldn't see any rhyming slang but 1a and 26a are sort of connected?

Gin and It seems to be popular at the moment:-)

Yes those were the two I was referring to. Last week we had rhubarb and custard!
