27A parse - first word is the 'anagrind' for second word (less a letter) 'binding' books...

All done, including the replacements, and the grid fill was quick, except the NE corner. But I cannot parse 6 down. I assume the definition is the last 4 words, but where does the ditch come in?

It’s a hidden word clue, but I don’t see an extra letter.

I see it now! The e at the end of envelopes is the extra, I think.

Smithsax at #54, can you give me a final push, I can't see what goes in 12a to give 'teeth' at 8d.
I have changed eleven cells already elsewhere. So six of these seven should change? But none of the obvious names fit.

Ok I am finished.
Did not enjoy the endgame, having decided the message ended with six extra words...only to find it ended in a mix of five extra words and a rogue letter too! Why?! Brain ache.

Have finished - early in the week for me. Could I just test my understanding? Two of my replacement words are adjoining in the same row.

If so I'm very pleased and grateful to the nudges.
