Brendan, re post 45: I think the answer is split 6/5, as the man's name has no 's' on the end, and the clue would not appear to justify one.

The last word in the wordplay is a plural, isn’t it, indicating an S at the end of the title?

Yes. I withdraw my previous post. I was taking the last three words to be part of the wordplay, with flower = river = r, and the puzzle's title to refer to the head of the family. I think, and hope, the less devious solution (everybody else's) is correct. Apologies, Brendan!
