I was confused because I had LEAR instead of REAL for 38a. By correcting that the 8 lines now spell the name of the house in the novel. That's why it must start and end where I said. I think 38a could be interpreted as leading to LEAR.
Don't know about anyone else but I'm finding this one a mess. Completing the grid was easy enough, as was identifying the two individuals and the rhyme. I have found the grey squares round the edges far from obvious. The first is, if I am correct, someone who abides on the hillside. After that ? I have KN-T and then a possible synonym of a coin. Are they in order of the rhyme? Help anyone please. Arsenal to watch tonight and I am about to give up.
Hi Williamseal, 1 = as you say, a hillside worker 2 - a nautical distance, 3 - an old coin, 4 - an anagram of the fourth item, 5 - Think 'Cats', 6 - Two words and a character from a Beatrix Potter story.
