Why is the missing letter at 18d a, not r (which also does not appear in the entry) ?

Ignore my last post, as I had foolishly done with 'spent primarily researching' (the commas threw me !)

isn't the R ignored in the parse "primarily Researching" spent

Does anybody know the answer to 12d

bus route anyone?

That was quite a marathon!
My only slight criticism is that the preamble should have made it clear that the 'first stop' for counting purposes was the depot itself.
After much counting (and recounting) and shading I ended up out east in Tebbit/IDS territory.
How on earth Harribobs managed to construct the puzzle so that the counting and shading worked heaven knows.

Yes I agree. The first stop is the next one, not where you are.

Pity the poor driver who has to go five times round the same route but the stopping places are moved every time!

I think you've just blown the wheels off this 'bus', rad (for me that's a far, far bigger issue than where the 'journey' starts).
