Kirky, 36 could be V, see (Latin, used a lot in crosswords) Eh, what +toed, gets kicked.

I'm not 100% sure as it doesn't help with the message.

I have T as the extra letter at 28 across - but still don't have the answer- and the message does end etc. Although I have answers for 18 and 26 down I still can't work out what the extra letter is in each case.
